The International Council for Industrial & Applied Mathematics (ICIAM) recently announced that Professor George Papanicolaou has won the 2019 Lagrange Prize.
Recognized for "his brilliant use of mathematics to solve important problems in science and engineering," Papanicolaou's work involves inhomogeneity, wave propagation, random media, diffusion, scattering, focusing, imaging, and finance.
ICIAM is a worldwide organization for professional applied mathematics societies, and for other societies with a significant interest in industrial or applied mathematics. The Council works to advance the applications of mathematics in all parts of the world.
