2020 Schlumberger Innovation Scholars Announced
Two ICME PhD students have been named 2019-2020 Schlumberger Innovation Scholars. The Schlumberger Innovation Scholarship program recognizes aspiring scholars in fields such as machine learning and deep learning, data science, and quantum computing. The award was established to encourage scholarship and research in these emerging technology areas, which hold great promise across many industries to improve performance, lower costs, increase accuracy and provide new research and business insights.
The recipients are:
Rahul Sarkar
Rahul is a fourth year PhD student in ICME, advised by professors Biondo Biondi and András Vasy. He holds a B.S. and M.S. degree from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India, as well as an M.S. degree from ICME at Stanford University. His research interests include computational aspects of inverse problems, quantum computing, and applications of machine learning in seismic imaging.
Nimit Sohoni
Nimit is a fourth year ICME PhD student who holds a B.S. in computer science and a B.A. in mathematics from Cornell University. He is advised by professor Christopher Ré. Nimit's research is focused on designing more generally applicable machine learning and deep learning modeling primitives.
