OVERVIEW
The ICME Career Forum is a unique event that brings together our students and ICME Affiliate Program Members and collaborators for a full day of networking and recruiting. Unlike any other career events offered on campus, the Career Forum introduces you directly to hiring managers and recruiters in a relaxed and personal setting that you won't find at large-scale career fairs. If you are new to this event, here are a few reasons why you want to join this year:
- Get an inside look at companies and their work.
- Connect directly with recruiters and hiring managers seeking computational math, data science, and AI talent.
- Explore internships and full-time positions across a wide range of industries.
- Gain insights during a summer internship that could be helpful in your research or in considering the right career path upon graduation.
- Practice networking, interviewing and learning about new opportunities.

ICME CAREER FORUM
- Who is eligible to attend?
The event is open to ICME graduate students (MS and PhD), Department of Statistics MS graduate students, and PhD candidates advised by ICME-affiliated faculty. - Where is the ICME Career Forum located?
The event is held at the Jen-Hsun Huang Engineering Center, 475 Via Ortega, Stanford, CA 94305 [View map]. Check-in and the Networking Breakfast are in the Huang Basement Foyer. Pre-scheduled interviews take place in the Mackenzie Room and designated breakout areas throughout the building. - Why should I participate in the ICME Career Forum?
Participating in the ICME Career Forum provides numerous benefits, including the opportunity to network with representatives from leading organizations, explore potential career paths, and learn about job and internship openings. It’s also a chance to showcase your skills and qualifications, receive valuable feedback, and possibly secure interviews or job offers. Additionally, the forum helps build professional connections that can be beneficial throughout your career and provides an opportunity to practice soft skills such as communication, networking, and professionalism in a supportive environment. - Are students guaranteed to get an interview?
Pre-scheduled interviews are not guaranteed for every student, as they are based on mutual interest and scheduling availability. However, there are several other ways to connect with organizations, including Open Houses, Information Sessions, hosted activities, and Bonus Interviews during the Career Forum.
If you're especially interested in a specific company, you may also email Tanya Schornack with a brief message of interest, along with your resume and cover letter (PDF format). Tanya will forward your materials to the appropriate company representative.
Note: Many organizations continue to post job opportunities and conduct interviews or coffee chats throughout the year. - What happens during the networking breakfast?
During the Networking Breakfast, representatives from participating organizations will be stationed at standing tables, each marked with their organization's name. This setup makes it easy for students to identify and connect with recruiters and hiring managers. Reintroduced this year, Bonus Interview Tickets give organization representatives the opportunity to invite standout students to an additional same-day interview that is separate from prescheduled interviews. These interviews typically take place during the Bonus Interview Hour (usually from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM). Recruiters and hiring managers may award Bonus Interview Tickets to students who make a strong impression during the Networking Breakfast or Open Houses. - What are bonus interviews for students?
Bonus Interviews at the ICME Career Forum are same-day, unscheduled interview opportunities offered by participating organizations. During the morning Networking Breakfast and Open Houses, recruiters and hiring managers identify promising candidates and invite them to interview later that afternoon during the dedicated Bonus Interview Hour (4:00–5:00 PM). Students selected for a bonus interview will receive a Bonus Interview Ticket with their assigned interview time during the 4:00–5:00 PM hour. These interviews provide an additional opportunity to connect with employers beyond their pre-scheduled interviews. - What is the purpose of the open houses at the ICME Career Forum, and how do they differ from scheduled interviews?
The open houses at the ICME Career Forum provide selected organizations an opportunity to meet and interact with students in a casual setting, separate from scheduled interviews. This allows students to learn more about the companies. - When should I show-up for my pre-scheduled interview?
Please check in at the registration table in the Huang Foyer at least 15 minutes before your interview. - What if I need to cancel my pre-scheduled interview?
ICME Interview Cancellation Policy - Interviews may be canceled up to five (5) days before the scheduled date. If you need to cancel, please notify Tanya Schornack at tschorna@stanford.edu. You may send your email to Tanya Schornack, who will ensure it is forwarded to the appropriate parties. No shows to interviews will be excluded from future editions of the resume book. - How should I dress for the event?
The recommended dress code for career fair events is “business casual.” - How should I prepare for my interview?
Research the organization, department, and role, if available, before your interview. Review the company’s mission, products, recent work, and industry focus, and be prepared to explain why you are interested in the opportunity and how your skills align with the organization. Always prepare for both behavioral and technical questions. Use specific examples to highlight your teamwork, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills. For technical interviews, review relevant skills and be ready to explain your thought process as you work through problems. Finally, prepare a few thoughtful questions about the team, organization, and potential opportunities. - What should I bring to my interview or networking event?
Bring extra resumes, a notebook, and business cards if you have them. Dress to make a strong impression, and come prepared with thoughtful questions and a polished introduction.
