Event Overview:
We look forward to your participation in the second Bridging the Farm: AI for Science at SLAC and Stanford Workshop happening on October 2, 2024, co-hosted by SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, the Stanford Institute for Computational & Mathematical Engineering (ICME), and the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI).
This event is in-person only and is open to the SLAC and Stanford communities. If you plan to submit a poster, you are encouraged to provide details in the registration form via Eventbrite.
This workshop will highlight the significant impact of AI applications in the Department of Energy (DOE) science by showcasing SLAC's research program, which includes national-scale science facilities such as particle accelerators, x-ray lasers, and the Rubin Observatory. It touches on a broad range of domains, including photon science, high-energy physics, astrophysics, materials science, ultrafast phenomena, quantum information science, and applied energy research.
This event aims to encourage collaborations between SLAC domain scientists and Stanford AI researchers and to introduce Stanford AI researchers to the DOE’s vision for AI and science. In addition to presentations from DOE and SLAC representatives, as well as Stanford faculty members, the workshop will feature two poster sessions. These sessions will focus on the high-level scientific motivations and data science challenges that we believe AI can address, as well as on fundamental research in AI, explaining the motivation and new capabilities enabled by research on topics such as experimental design, anomaly detection, foundational models, image processing, data-scarce methods, and human-AI interaction.
Event Outline:
The full agenda and confirmed speakers will be announced soon. Below is a sneak peek of session topics:
- Themes for a future Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence for Science, Security and Technology (FASST) proposal
- Presentations on domain science challenges at SLAC
- Presentations on foundation model research at Stanford
- Poster sessions highlighting SLAC scientific challenges and AI research at Stanford
- Future of AI for Science
