Professor Alonso's research has focused on the development of advanced tools and frameworks for the application of high-fidelity computational methods to the multidisciplinary design optimization of aerospace systems such as aircraft, spacecraft and jet engines. He is also interested in the efficient simulation of unsteady aeroelastic flows for both internal and external configurations with applications in design. Due to the demanding computational requirements of all of these calculations, the vast majority of his research work is performed using high-performance parallel computing platforms; research work on alternative algorithms that scale properly on this kind of computer is also part of Professor Alonso's group.
