Remembrances in Celebration of Gene Golub

Dear friends of Gene's,
We'd like to invite you to the Remembrances in Celebration
of Gene Golub meeting on February 29, 2008, which would have
been Gene's 76th birthday.
The memorial meeting will be held in the Ballroom of the newly
renovated Old Union on Stanford Campus beginning at 2 pm.

The meeting will start with remembrances by several of Gene's
many close friends. To date, we are so pleased to have confirmation from
Celia Concus, Leah Friedman, Walter Gander, Alvin Golub (Gene's brother),
Marvin Knopp, Jill Knuth, Victor Pereyra, Michael Saunders, and Werner Stuetzle.
After the organized speakers, who will share many wonderful
stories of Gene, we will have an open mike session where you
will have the opportunity to speak for a couple of minutes
if you so desire.
Drinks and especially tasty snacks, as Gene would have liked it,
will be served throughout the meeting.
The Symposium on Gene Golub's Legacy will be held in honor of Gene on March 1,
the day after the memorial celebration. Information about the symposium can be found at:

This allows us to make an
estimate of the expected number attending, and also to create
name badges before the event. If you would like to speak during
the open mike session, please indicate that on the registration form also.
Finally, we would like to display a large collection of photos, showing
Gene through the years. If you have photos of Gene that you
would like to share, please send a digital copy by email to Margot.

Detailed walking directions on-campus : If you walk from the Bookstore and White Plaza fountain toward the Old Union, you'll see a building on the left labeled "Clubhouse". It's part of the Old Union complex, but is detached from the main building. We will be in the Clubhouse Ballroom, half a floor above ground level, from 2 pm to 5 pm.
