A Pair of Events in Memory of Gene Golub

Friday, February 29, 2008 to Saturday, March 1, 2008
Stanford University, Stanford, CA

Gene Golub
Gene H. Golub
1932--2007

Gene Golub was a towering figure in the area of scientific computing and numerical analysis, both globally and in terms of shaping the local environment at Stanford University. In recognition of his many contributions, the Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering (iCME) and the Department of Computer Science at Stanford University will host two events in his memory.

On the afternoon of February 29th (Gene's 19th birthday), please join us at Stanford to share memories of Gene, and to toast the wonderful legacy he left behind. We will celebrate Gene's many contributions, not just to science but to each of our lives. We will follow this on March 1st with an all-day technical symposium organized by Chen Greif and Dianne O'Leary to recognize Gene's many scientific contributions.

Please plan on joining us at Stanford for these two very special events to remember Gene Golub. As further details become available, you will find them posted at this website.

Remembrances in Celebration of Gene Golub (afternoon of February 29, 2008)

  • Detailed walking directions on-campus: If you walk from the Bookstore and White Plaza fountain toward the Old Union, you'll see a building on the left labeled "Clubhouse". It's part of the Old Union complex, but is detached from the main building. We will be in the Clubhouse Ballroom, half a floor above ground level, from 2 pm to 5 pm.
Symposium on Gene Golub's Legacy: Matrix Computations -- Foundation and Future (March 1, 2008)
  • Symposium Program
  • Saturday's all-day symposium will be in Terman Auditorium, on the ground floor, near the pond.
